Samhain Birth

Samhain Birth offers in home wholistic postpartum care to new families in Central Vermont and the North East Kingdom. Using food, herbs and massage we gently bring balance to the unfolding of parenthood. We assist, empower, enlighten, and listen. We create space within the home for families to peacefully transition into their new lives together.

with_babyOur practice gracefully blends East Indian Ayurveda, Western Herbalism, and Energetic Healing, shielding mother and baby from the chaos of the outside world.

Menus are planned according to the constitution of the mother and baby. Delicious snacks and meals are prepared in home and served with love and patience.

Mom receives:
Daily tonic herbals to encourage healing and lactation
Meals prepared daily, in home
Daily herbal consultations
Daily full body hot oil massage

The postpartum doula serves mom through the psychological and physical changes of giving birth.

Using specialized diet, identification of baby and mother’s constitution, daily hot oil massage, daily consultation and herbal medicine, we gently and lovingly bring mom back into balance. These practices greatly reduce postpartum depression, anxiety, poor mother-infant bonding and colic.

We also provide information concerning mother and baby care, and referrals when appropriate. We offer guidance as you learn to feed and care for your new baby.

Our Birth Services

MASSAGE

massageWomen have been receiving massage after giving birth for possibly as long as women have given birth. Many traditions spanning from the Americas to Asia incorporate massage into postpartum care. Our massage is given daily, and consists of an hour and a half of hot oil, and complete relaxation. The massage not only counteracts anxiety and irritability, but also encourages tissue reintegration, brings balance to the constitution, and gently detoxifies. We also offer instruction in self massage and baby massage. Massaging your baby aids in bonding (especially with Dad), encourages good sleeping habits, and reduces fussiness.

DAILY CONSULTATION

with_deniseEach day mom is given the opportunity to share with her doula any concerns she has with her health or the health of her baby. Jill is a trained clinical herbalist specializing in women and children since 1998. She uses this time to educate, enlighten or simply listen. Her background also includes motherhood, bringing personal experience to all the remedies that she suggests.
